"Reflections of a Wanderer"
After three weeks of failed attempts and growing frustration, I set out on a short three-night adventure into the Alpine Lakes. It wasn’t looking good. The forecast called for rain and thick clouds the rest of the week, and smoke plumes kept drifting down from Canada. Honestly, I wasn’t even looking forward to it anymore. I felt like I had to go—like I needed to force myself to be productive.
But just like every other time I begin a new adventure—regardless of my mood beforehand or what the weather threatens—I slowly started to feel good again… even excited. And almost as if my shift in attitude invited it in, the weather began to change for the better. Clouds broke apart, revealing layers of atmosphere and soft light spilling across the valleys and mountains. For the next two days, the light and atmosphere were the most beautiful I’d seen on the entire road trip.
“Reflections of a Wanderer” was made on the second evening of that short adventure. I suppose it’s a reminder that sometimes the breakthrough comes right after you’re ready to give up. (September, 2025)
