There are places in nature that feel deliberately built — not by the hands of man, but something else. This is one of them.
I’d wandered through a field of stone and low alpine tapestry that morning, chasing what I’d glimpsed from afar the day before — a waterfall spilling beneath a cirque of the most stunning peaks. The weather didn’t look promising. The skies were perfectly clear, except for a thin band of cloud along the eastern horizon.
But as the sun broke the ridge, it pierced that veil and the world before me ignited. Granite walls burned like torches in a cave; the forest shimmered with reflected light. For a fleeting moment, the basin felt less like wilderness and more like a place meant to be revered — a courtyard in the heavens. (August, 2025)
