After more than a week of searching and waiting — each day ending in disappointment — I found myself on the final evening of my trip. I was tired, ready to head home days earlier, but decided to follow one last trail through the aspen groves, not knowing where it would lead.
Then, the forest opened to a small rocky outcrop. A sea of gold, oranges and reds, rolling endlessly into the distance. I stood on the ledge and just took it all in.
Eventually, curiosity pulled me onward. What else might this trail reveal? I wandered for miles, through rain and sunlight, until another wave of weather convinced me to turn back. I returned just as the light began to change again and for a few minutes, the forest glowed as if lit from within. (October, 2025)
