Field Note No. 01 — The Mountain that Dreamed

$45.00

The Mountain that Dreamed was created after a long hike into Washington’s Alpine Lakes Wilderness, where smoke from distant wildfires slowly dulled an otherwise perfect September sky. I had planned to push higher up the basin but chose to stay at Jade Lake instead, unsure if I’d regret the decision. The evening brought no light, no color, and sunrise seemed equally uneventful as fog drifted in and out. The entire scene I had hoped to capture was in shadow. I packed up and began hiking out, content with a peaceful night out  — until I crested the hill above the lake and glanced back. The mountain had risen above a sea of fog, illuminated by a narrow window of sun breaking through the haze. The scene lasted only moments, but long enough to capture a landscape that waited for me to surrender expectation.
