Growing up in the Midwest, when I went down to the Southwest for the first time in 2023, I was dumbfounded by how different the environment is. It is otherworldly. Although that said, I certainly didn’t find it easy to create something new. I wanted to create something other than the obvious abstracts and intimate scenes that so many have done. The desert is probably the environment in which I’m least productive. So it’s a place I will continue to come back to year after year to attempt to build upon the base I’ve achieved.
